The Schools Allergy Register

The Schools Allergy Register is a list of schools who are working with The Allergy Team to keep pupils with allergies as safe and as included as possible.

To join the list, schools are assessed by The Allergy Team against the criteria laid out in the Schools Allergy Code (guidance recommended to all schools by the Department for Education). Those assessed as implementing best practice in allergy management are awarded the Schools Allergy Register trust mark.

Why your school should join the Schools Allergy Register

Schools on the Schools Allergy Register have demonstrated they go above and beyond their statutory responsibilities and have shown they are committed to the safety and inclusion of their pupils with allergies. Whether you’re confident in the way you manage allergies but keen to be even better, or aware that you have work to do, we’ll help you get there…

We'll support you

Managing allergies is a big responsibility. We will help you get this right and provide ongoing support.

We train your staff

CPD-accredited allergy & anaphylaxis training for all staff is included. It's online, video-based and clinician-approved.

Earn our trust mark

Schools following best practice are added to the Register. Families can search for schools committed to allergy safety.

How does it work?

Once you apply to join the Schools Allergy Register we will immediately start working with you to identify what you are already doing well and where you might need support.

We’ll meet online to discuss how we can help, your training needs and send out template documents and guidance.

We’ll work with you to adopt the Schools Allergy Code and if you have chosen our ‘in-person’ option, we’ll visit your school to discuss allergy management with you on site.

Your staff will have access to our expert Q&As and drop-in sessions.

Our school is not ‘ready’ to join…

Schools often tell us they’re not yet ‘ready’ to join the Schools Allergy Register but that is not a barrier to signing up. In fact, if you have work to do to improve your policies and procedures, let us help!

For some schools meeting the criteria laid out in the Schools Allergy Code will be relatively straightforward. It might involve implementing some extra training, organising an anaphylaxis drill or updating your Allergy and Anaphylaxis policy. Others will need more support.

Online and in-person options explained

As well as a step-by-step written guide to help you implement the Code in your school,we’ll send you template documents (such as an Allergy and Anaphylaxis Policy and anaphylaxis drills) and access to our training and Q&As.

If you would like us to visit your school, see your setting and speak to your senior leaders in-person to discuss how you manage allergies, please choose the ‘in-person Register’ option. Before our visit we will carry out staff and parent surveys and afterwards we will provide you with written feedback, complete with key findings and action points.

Will my school fail if we cannot comply with every single detail of the Code?

Every school on the Register has proved to The Allergy Team that they meet best practice as outlined in the Schools Allergy Code.

Our assessments are rigorous and we work hard with schools to support them to meet the standard required. However, we understand that schools are complex organisations with staff turnover, changes in cohort and budget constraints so we are practical in our approach. For example, the Code requires all staff to be trained, however due to new joiners or for sickness it may be that one or two members may not have received their training at the time of assessment.

If The Allergy Team is not satisfied that a school adheres to the Code, we will not add the school to the Register or award them the trust-mark. However, we will support the school to revisit their application. For more information please see our Ts&Cs.

It is important to recognise that our assessment, whether online or in-person, can only assess what is going on at a school at a particular moment in time.
