What is Neffy, how does Neffy work and when will Neffy be available in the UK? These are big questions for people living with allergies, so here’s what we know:

WHAT IS NEFFY?

Neffy is a needle-free alternative to adrenaline pens for treating anaphylaxis.

The small, plastic devices deliver adrenaline as a nasal spray.

It has been approved for use in the US and its manufacturer hopes it will be available in the UK from early Summer 2025.

Neffy devices have a 30 month expiry which means they don’t have to be replaced as frequently as adrenaline pens.

CARRY POUCH

In the US users apply for a free carry pouch online. It has room for two Neffy devices and the instruction leaflet.

IS NEFFY SAFE AND EFFECTIVE?

The UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency is looking at the evidence and is expected to approve Neffy for use in the UK next year, making it available from early Summer.

Neffy is already in use in the US where the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved it for the emergency treatment of anaphylaxis in August 2024. At the time the FDA said this was based on four studies which showed that concentration of epinephrine (adrenaline) in the blood was similar following the administration of Neffy and adreneline pens. The studies also showed that the two types of treatment led to similar increases in blood pressure and heart rate.

HOW DO YOU USE NEFFY?

Each of the plastic devices contains a single dose nasal spray which you deliver into one nostril. As with adrenaline pens, a second dose may be needed (sprayed into the same nostril) which is why the case has space for two devices.

At present Neffy is only available to treat adults and children who weigh more than 30kg.
