On Wednesday 8th May 2024 the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, emphasised the importance of keeping pupils with allergies safe at school and reminded school governing bodies of their legal duty to make arrangements for supporting pupils with medical conditions.

We fully understand the seriousness of severe allergies, and believe that children with medical conditions should be properly supported to enjoy a full education and be safe at school. There is a legal duty on the governing body of schools to make arrangements for supporting pupils, including setting out what needs to be done, symptoms and treatment.

The issue was raised in the House of Commons, thanks to the ongoing campaigning of Helen Blythe whose five-year-old son, Benedict, died from anaphylaxis following an allergic reaction at school.

Watch the exchange in Parliament below.

We collaborated with Helen Blythe to create the Schools Allergy Code which was sent out by the Department for Education to all schools. This outlines best practice in allergy management and is free for all schools to access.

Schools adhering to the Schools Allergy Code can apply to join the Schools Allergy Register. This includes a full package of support from The Allergy Team, whole-school training and assessment, leading to successful schools receiving our trust mark and inclusion on the Register.

We also offer whole school Allergy Reviews.
