Asthma and Allergies
What is the link between asthma and allergies, what do doctors mean when they say asthma should be “well-controlled” and how can you tell the difference between asthma and an allergic reaction?Date recorded: 20th October 2023
Asthma and allergies often go hand in hand – but what is the link and why is it so important that asthma is well-controlled? Professor Graham Roberts joined us for a Q&A which covered all this, as well as asthma medication, whether the nasal flu vaccine is safe for children with allergies and whether there are lifestyle changes families can make to reduce asthma symptoms.
Professor Roberts also answered one of the questions we often get asked here at The Allergy Team – how can you tell the difference between anaphylaxis and an asthma attack, if your child is coughing and wheezing?
Professor Roberts is President of the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology and Professor and Honorary Consultant Paediatrician in Paediatric Allergy and Respiratory Medicine at the University of Southampton. He is also the joint Director of the David Hide Asthma and Allergy Research Centre on the Isle of Wight.
